I haven't tried any alternatives. Fundamentally, the Rosetta Stone software is not complex. There are two things which are difficult.

1. Good quality pictures and a coherent study plan take time to develop.
2. The pronunciation checker is surprisingly good, and getting that right for Chinese is hard.

Let me know what you thought of Live Mocha. Since I have the entire Mandarin set, I don't have any incentive to looking for alternatives.

I think is necessary to reduce th voltage on PINs DO, DI, CS and SCK to 3.3V. The Arduino pin in high level mode gives 5V and the SD card works with 3.3V.
The voltage reduction can be done through voltage divisor using 3.3K and 1.8K resistors.

Don't mistake walled garden to non open-source. Chrome is open source, how many non-googlers contribute to it? Android is open source, how many google apps can run with the same functionality on google's version of android vs branches. Android market is closed. Can google.com search be vastly superior if it ever got open sourced?

Consumers want a great product for the right price. Which is exactly what apple, google chrome, android et al provide.

Yes!

I ran gdbserver on the phone using something like:
"gdbserver host:2345 test"

I had to build gdb on the desktop so it could use the arm architecture by doing "./configure --build=x86 --host=x86 --target=arm-linux --with-expat"

I had a bit of an issue trying to get it to link to expat, but managed to make it eventually (can't remember how).

Then it was just a case of starting up ddd using the --debugger option to use gdb I had made above.

Then in the console in ddd I ran "target extended-remote :2345 test".

The only issue I have is that I can't see the source file in ddd, but I can set break points and also do source->registers to see their current values.

So next step is to hopefully get the source file to show.
