This monopoly that microsoft is trying create frustrates even an attempt by a computer user to look beyond windows as an OS.
I am a law student, and dont really understand the dynamics of changing technology and am usually dependent on computer engineers for a smooth running of my pc. I obviously have been skeptical of using linux because, well I have never used it. But my university got linux as an OS for the net centre and when I was forced to use it I realized it wasnt all greek.
However when it came to buying my laptop, I again was fully dependent on these Computer engineers who installed windows in some funny way that my system crashed in 2 days. Apart from losing all the data, the sheer frustration of helplessness made me curse Gates to death. I mean if i complained, laptop company said i hadnt bought the original software and I refused to shell out 6000 bucks for something that i cud get for peanuts.
the point somewhere is that even if linux is considered more stable, and cheaper, its the sheer inexperience with such a system that makes people like me fall back on windows.
I know its a circlar thing and, i have to use it to get comfortable with it, but nobody I know, and it is imp to take note that I hang out in a very non-techno crowd, uses linux on their pcs.
that alone makes me wary of it, even though i find windows unstable and costly. I think like gates, the linux guys also need to visit india often and try to make their visits as glamorous as mr. gates'.
